Before Chanukah, both grades two and four learned about the Chanukah miracles including the Maccabees’ victory and the miracle of the oil. Grade two made beautiful Chanukah cards which hopefully made it home! On Sunday December 13, 2009, it was time for some Chanukah fun! Fourth grade students brought in Chanukiahs (that’s right, menorahs have space for only 7 candles while a Chanukiah has space for nine!). Each student had the chance to tell us something special about their Chanukiah which were all set up as our very own Chanukiah museum! Then we created edible chanukiahs complete with graham crackers, frosting, marshmallows and pretzels. Some made it home and others……………well, the key word here is edible! You get the point!
Second grade experienced the mitzvah of taking care of the animals and thinking of others during Chanukah time by creating beautiful birdfeeders made from nature’s own pinecones, frosting and birdseed. I am hoping that each of these masterpieces will grace your yards and be enjoyed by our feathered friends who didn’t make the trip down to Boca this winter!
Harrison and Max were kind enough to bring in 2 wonderful Chanukah books to share with their classmates. Max’s book was a Chanukah gift from his grandparents and told us the Chanukah story. Harrison’s book was a funny Chanukah tale about a village that was overflowing with crispy yummy latkes! Can you imagine that?
Chanukah Sameach to all!
