Come with your ideas, initiative, and energy.  We’ll continue the exciting discussion starting with the topic we ended with last month: – Brunch – Political / Sports speakers – Texas Hold Em – Etc. We typically meet the 3rd Tuesday of every month.  This month we’re pushing back one week to accomodate scheduling conflicts. Community Wide Family Fun Sunday, June 24. festivities begin at 11:30 AM at Congregation Shirat Hayam. 11:30 AM Bike Safety Tips from Swampscott Police 11:55 AM Children’s escorted 2 mile bike ride to Temple Sinai Noon Children’s ride around the cones Salem Cycle will be available for helmet checks at Shirat Hayam throughout the program Capable riders are encouraged to ride the route of their choice 10, 25, 50 or 75 miles through seaside towns. register now at www.tourdeshuls.org. Please bring your child’s own bike and safety equipment (helmets are mandatory). Join us for bike riding, BBQ and music. A donation of $5 per person or $18 per family is requested. In the event of rain the Family 2-mile Bike ride will be cancelled but the BBQ and music will go on. All Tour De Shul’s proceeds support the Tikvah special needs program at Camp Ramah-New England.

Social Action Committee Minutes, 6/3/12

Social Action Committee Minutes, 6/3/12 -     There is no action needed from the SAC for the CATA bus. -     Attendees reported on the two events on May 17. Several SAC members attended the dinner/workshop with Rabbi Margie Klein. The workshop focused on how to make social action a central mission of the temple, as part of the three part Jewish tradition of study, prayer, and “gemilut chasidim” (or acts of kindness). The second part was text study related to Jewish social justice. Family Promise representatives also spoke. -       A grant proposal is due June 4. The group discussed proceeding with phase 2 of the program set in place this year (the four educational programs co-sponsored with Temple Shalom). The Gloucester temple also expressed interest in participating. The disabilities program (one of the four sponsored this year) prompted Marcy Yellin to start a group with JF&CS to support kids with special needs called J-SPANN (Jewish Special Needs Network of the North Shore). There are already 20 families involved. Ner Tamid may also have interest in participating as well in the grant. TBA and Tample Shalom agreed to continue this educational initiative even if we don’t get funding via the grant. Jim … Continue reading
