Message from Dan Swartz: Teen Ice Skating Outing
Hello TBS/TBA Teens!(grades 8 and up) Are you ready for some winter-themed, rip roaring fun right here in Peabody?! Temple Beth Shalom and Temple B’nai Abraham Teens are going ice skating at the James McVann-Louis O’Keefe Skating Rink, which is right down the street from Temple Beth Shalom. We will have a quick Havdalah and pizza at the temple to conclude Shabbat and then head over to the rink. Want to see Dan Swartz fall on his butt many times? Then come to the event because that is bound to happen! 2012 Madrichim Leadership Retreat Friday – Sunday, Sept. 28-30, 2012 Grades 8 – 12 at Camp Ramah, Palmer, MA We are very excited to be offering this outstanding new collaborative program for Jewish teens of the North Shore! This Shabbaton, run by Prozdor, takes place at beautiful Camp Ramah in Palmer and features ropes course challenges, learning, sports, movies, kosher dining and more. Come join us for this first-of-its-kind leadership training weekend! THE WEEKEND AT-A-GLANCE Get to know other teens from around the North Shore through team-building, leadership development, Shabbat services, group challenges and social programming. Transportation will be provided from both Peabody and Marblehead. We will leave Friday Friday at 3:30 p.m. and return Sunday by 1:00 p.m. We hope you will choose to join us for this incredible opportunity made possible by a JFNS Community Innovation Grant and designed in conjunction with CSH, TBS, TBA, TEE, TNT, TS and NSTI. Teens and parents, please make note of these upcoming events: Pre-Confirmation Madriach Program (for grades 8 and 9) Teens in our Madriach program will gain leadership skills through training sessions and hands-on experience in our classrooms and office. Next meeting: Sunday, December 11, 10 to 11 a.m. Also scheduled for January 22; February 12; March 18; and April 29. Rosh Hodesh: ‘It’s a Girl Thing’ (for girls, grades 8 and 9) We thank the Myerson family for hosting our introductory meeting in November. Next meeting: Sunday, December 11, 6 to 8 p.m. at the home of Susan and Michael Grant. Also scheduled for January 22; February 12; March 11; April 29; and May 20. ‘The Hub’ for Teens: Gonzo Judaism and the ‘Real Story’ of Hanukkah Monday, December 12, 6 to 8 p.m. at Temple B’nai Abraham. Register for this free discussion series through the North Shore Teen Initiative. Additional sessions are scheduled for March 18 (Temple Ahavat Achim, Gloucester) and April 30 (Cohen Hillel Academy, Marblehead). The Hub For Teens: Register Today
This exciting new collaboration among temples and agencies on the North Shore offers four inspiring and engaging sessions for teens in our community. Each session covers a different topic with a fresh and experiential approach to Jewish education. Discussion 1: Hunger and Homelessness/World Hunger Simulation Date: Sunday, November 13, 6-8pm Location: Temple Ner Tamid, Peabody Experience dinner as the world does. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of three “world categories” that dictate what tables are available to them and what food they have access to. North Shore Medical Center Walk
Members of TBA will be participating once again in the North Shore Medical Center Foundation Cancer Walk on Sunday June 26, 2011. The walk begins at 8:30am at Salem Willows. We will meet at the Temple and carpool over to Salem. Parking is limited and we have to meet the shuttle that will take us to the Willows. This is NOT a race, just a way to get exercise and have fun while raising money for a good cause. If you are interested in participating, please call or e-mail me at 978 587-2112 or clarkie95@verizon.net. You will also have to register on the NSMC’s website at nsmcgiving.partners.org. It is pretty self explanatory, but if you have any problems, or questions, please let me know. Make sure to register as a team member of Temple B’nai Abraham. Community Learning Day – May 15, 2011
Join us on Sunday, May 15, for the final Community Learning Day of the academic year. We have so many guests this session! Debbie Coltin will introduce the Holocaust Legacy Partners program, an effort to save Holocaust victims’ stories. Dr. Jacob Meskin will lead a trial session of Ikkarim, a new program offered by the Jewish Federation of the North Shore, on Parenting Through a Jewish Lens. Leah Jacobson will share her love of food through two sessions of raw food cooking for all ages. Julie Mazepa will lead us all in Zumba to Israeli music. There will also be two special sessions especially for tots, as well as a tour of Israel on a giant map. The day rounds off with a Glee Concert with our own TBA Religious School students guided by vocal coaches and music directors, Lynne Jackson and Mike Palter. Come and dance, eat and listen to music!
